What is Counselling?

Counselling is a talking therapy within a caring and supportive relationship. Together we explore an issue that may be causing you worry.

I can support you to find hope and make positive choices to manage challenges around:

  • Grief and Loss

  • Stress

  • Couple and Family Relationships

  • Trauma

  • Self Esteem and Identity

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Work Place Challenges

  • Any other issues you may be trying to make sense of

Why Counselling?

Life is not always easy and sometimes this creates stress which negatively impacts on our wellbeing.

Our attitude and choices can influence how we manage this stress.

If we are brave enough to share our vulnerability in a safe space and explore new ways of thinking, we can take small steps to make positive changes and find hopeful and preferred ways of being.

Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui

Be brave, be bold, be steadfast.

My Approach

I base our work on Person-Centred Therapy. This means you can talk about any issue that is important to you and I will provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to make sense of your world. Together we will identify your strengths and use these to plan your next steps towards holistic well-being.

I may use a variety of modalities throughout our shared work, such as:

Narrative Therapy : A strength based approach to exploring the stories of your life. This helps to identify your values and skills, and explores how to use these to guide your journey towards a preferred way of being.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy : This is useful when negative thought patterns are impacting your behaviour choices. I can support you to identify unhelpful patterns and to look for ways to break negative cycles.

Systemic Family Practices : These will help you to identify, and make sense of, both helpful and unhelpful patterns within your relationships.

Confidentiality is important and will be clearly explained to you at our first meeting.
